Grilling on Your New Deck
We all enjoy being outdoors when the weather is nice. There is no better way than spending time outside on your brand new deck having a family bar-b-que! There are a few safety tips you should keep in mind when grilling on your deck.

- Keep a bucket of sand or fire extinguisher nearby. You won’t have a fire alarm outside to warn you when things start to heat up! You must be able to act quickly if things get out of control.
- Remove grease or fat buildup. Having open flames on a wooden deck does cause some concern. Fires would likely spread fast if not properly extinguished. Cleaning your grill once in a while will go a long way to avert any looming fire danger.
- Clear away any debris and hanging tree branches. If you are using a charcoal grill, embers can easily be carried away by the wind and ignite any combustible materials or low hanging branches
- Position your grill in the center of your deck. This will help keep your grill a safe distance from the house and deck railings.
- Invest in a fire mat. Hot ash and splatters are a big concern for any person with a grill on a deck. Fire mats slide under your grill and cover the area underfoot. Along with reducing the fire damage, a fire mat will also protect your deck floors from scuffs and scratches!
